Symbolic
Creatures
Simulation (2002-2004)
This is a project on Artificial Life where we simulate
an ecosystem that allows cooperative interaction between agents,
including intra-specific predator-warning communication in a virtual
environment of predatory events. We propose, based on Peircean
semiotics and informed by neuroethological constraints, an experiment
to simulate the emergence of symbolic communication among artificial
creatures. Here we describe the simulation environment and the
creatures' control architectures.

Development of Educational Electronic Games for Teaching and Learning in Evolution and Ecology (2007-current)
This project (SIMDUNAS) has the objective of developing educational
electronic games based on the Theory of Meaningful Learning and
focusing on central concepts of the biological thought, related with
ecology and evolution. The centrality of these concepts justify the
effort of providing better learning conditions, using the technology in
a conscious and reflexive manner in the educational process, therefore
promoting a integrated and deep understanding of one of the most
central sciences to a responsible citizenship nowadays, Biology. This
project is funded by FINEP.
